When did he get started?
Ben got involved in sprinting when he was in year 11 at Treloars School in Hampshire. He won the Disability Sport National Championships and was spotted as having talent. Before then Ben was heavily involved in organising sports activities as well as participating at school.
Ben met his coach Rob Ellchuk, the year he left school in 2003. His first major competition was in 2005 at the Cerebral Palsy World Games in the US. He went on to represent the GB&NI Team at the IPC European Championships later that year.
Support from UKA?
Ben joined the UKA World Class Potential programme in 2003 and was then elevated to World Class Podium after the IPC World Championships in 2006. He won silver in the 100m at the Beijing Paralympics, despite having a broken metatarsal in the final stages of his preparation.
